Thanks for the comment, Perry. I recently had an online conversation with Nestlé PR consultant Jim McClellan regarding this issue and my blog post. The exchange was interesting and heated at times. At first, Jim called me a “rant.” Then, the conversation escalated to a more constructive level. I learned a few things, and so did Jim.

This sounds spot on to me. Saw a Nestlé CSR representative talk at a trade event recently and not bring up any of the issues above. When an audience member did bring them up, he responded that bottled water is useful in countries where clean tap water isn’t available. I did find that to be a valid point, but that would obviously limit the industry to a much smaller audience than the one it’s selling now, at least one that could afford its products…
